Welcome to our medical practice! It is our goal to make your visit as pleasant as going to the doctor can be. The office has been designed with your comfort in mind, and Dr. Besser and the entire staff are here to help you improve your vision and enjoy life to the fullest.
Please note: Dr. Besser provides medical and surgical ophthalmology services. He does not provide eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dr. Besser can refer patients in need of eyeglasses and contact lenses to local optometrists.
Filling Out Office Forms
You will need to fill out a series of forms that help us determine the nature of your visit and your past ocular and general health, as well as other forms that are required by health insurance plans. To expedite your visit, you can find these forms by clicking HERE and fill them out prior to your appointment (don't forget to bring them with you). Otherwise, you can fill them out when you arrive at the office. If you choose the latter option, please arrive 20 minutes early in order to give yourself time to complete them.
Depending on the nature of your ocular condition, your visit may last as little as 10 minutes and as long as 2 hours. It depends on the complexity of your specific issue and whether ophthalmic testing with specialized equipment is necessary. The office is equipped with the latest technology to best diagnose and provide proper treatment. Any testing deemed necessary will be discussed with you, and all your questions will be addressed and answered.
Dilating the Eye
Whether you're having an initial visit or follow up appointment, Dr. Besser may need to dilate your pupil (the central black part of the eye) with eyedrops. These drops allow the doctor to obtain a better view of the eye's inner structures, which is extremely useful for proper diagnosis and treatment. The eyedrops' effect can last 3-6 hours, depending on the individual, and can include blurry vision and light sensitivity. Many people are able to drive after pupil dilation with the use of sunglasses; others are not. If you are uncertain or have concerns about driving safely following your eye exam, we recommend that you have someone bring you to the office.
